Danielle Collins reached the quarter-finals of the Charleston Open by winning against Sloane Stephens 6-2, 6-2 at the Family Circle Tennis Center on Thursday night.

The American has now won 10 straight matches after picking up her first WTA 1000 title last week in Miami. The victory over Stephens was also her second match played on Thursday, with the world No 22 defeating second seed Ons Jabeur earlier in the day.

“I’ve had seasons where I’ve had injuries and a lot of health problems, I think everyone’s familiar with,” Collins said on court after her match. “To be able to get to the point where I feel like I’m really fit and can get through two matches in one day is really rewarding.”

Collins will face the winner of the match between Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, the No 7 seed, and Belgian Elise Mertens, the No 11 seed, next.

Danielle Collins defeated Spaniard Paula Badosa (6-1, 6-4) and Jabeur, the second seed (6-3, 1-6, 6-3) earlier in the tournament.

In the previous rounds of the Charleston tournament, Stephens, ranked No 40, won against Pole Magdalena Frech (6-0, 6-2) and Canadian Leylah Fernandez, the No 14 seed (6-4, 6-4).
