San Diego Open: Collins beats Ostapenko to reach quarters, to meet Garcia
The American edged out Jelena Ostapenko 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 on Wednesday in second round action

American Danielle Collins moved into the quarter-finals of the Cymbiotika San Diego Open by edging out Latvian Jelena Ostapenko 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 on Wednesday.
This was Collins’ first win over the former French Open champion in three career meetings. Collins, ranked No 43, will face Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the second seed, next.
The American holds a 2-0 edge over Garcia including a win in San Diego last year.
In the previous round, Collins won against qualifier Louisa Chirico (7-5, 6-0). Ostapenko, ranked No 16, edged out Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova, the No 8 seed (7-6 (3), 6-7 (6), 7-5) during the 32.
