Golden Gate Open at Stanford: Second seed Rakhimova makes quarter-finals

Russian Kamilla Rakhimova, the second seed, moved into the last eight of the Golden Gate Open at Stanford by beating American Robin Montgomery 7-5, 6-3 on Wednesday night.
It was a spirited challenge by the world No 150, who ultimately was unable to capitalise on her chances to break Rakhimova’s serve, going down in a tight two-set affair.
Rakhimova, ranked No 80, will face Belarusian qualifier Iryna Shymanovich next.
In the previous round, the 21-year-old Russian won against wildcard Angelica Blake (7-5, 2-6, 6-1).
Montgomery, ranked No 150, defeated wildcard Coco Vandeweghe (6-3, 7-6 (3)) in the previous round.
