Iga Swiatek and Elena Rybakina are fast-developing a rivalry which could go a long way to deciding the outcome of many Grand Slam events over the next few years.

The pair have now played six times on tour so far with Swiatek winning the first one before Rybakina took the next three, all in 2023, including a victory at the Australian Open. Swiatek reduced the deficit when she triumphed 7-6, 6-2 in the Doha final in February 2024, before Rybakina restored her advantage in their most recent meeting, beating Swiatek 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 in the semi-final of the Stuttgart Open. It was the Pole’s first loss at the tournament.

Rybakina leads the head to head record 4-2, having won their four of their five most recent meetings. Swiatek won the first one, soundly, back in Ostrava in 2021 but Rybakina won all three of their 2023 clashes, becoming a thorn in the Pole’s side. She earned her third win of 2023 in the Rome quarter-finals when Swiatek withdrew with injury early in the deciding set. Swiatek won their latest final battle, though, coming out on top 7-6 (8), 6-2 in the Doha final in February 2024. Rybakina then struck back in Stuttgart in April, beating Swiatek in the semi-finals.

Between them, Swiatek and Rybakina have won five Grand Slam titles. Swiatek has four slam titles to her name, three Roland-Garros wins and one at the US Open. Her most recent slam win came in Paris in 2023, when she beat Karolina Muchova in the final. Rybakina won her first and to date only Grand Slam title at Wimbledon in 2022, when she beat Ons Jabeur in the final.
