Indian Wells: Andreescu battles past Stearns to set up Swiatek clash

Canadian Bianca Andreescu, the No 32 seed, moved into the third round of the BP Paribas Open in Indian Wells by winning against American wildcard Peyton Stearns 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 on Saturday.

Andreescu, ranked No 36 in the world and the 2019 champion at Indian Wells, will play world No 1 Iga Swiatek, of Poland, in the third round.

This will be the second clash between Andreescu and Swiatek, with the Pole winning their match in Rome last year by a margin of 7-6, 6-0.

In the previous round of the Indian Wells tournament, Stearns, ranked No 126 in the world, edged out Spanish qualifier Rebeka Masarova (4-6, 6-4, 6-4).
