Indian Wells: Jabeur comes from a set down to beat Frech, plays Vondrousova in third round

Tunisian Ons Jabeur, the No 4 seed, came from a set down to beat Polish lucky loser Magdalena Frech 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 and move into the third round of Indian Wells on Saturday.

Jabeur, ranked No 4 in the world and a two-time Grand Slam runner-up last year, was playing her first match since the Australian Open in January after a minor surgery forced her to miss the Doha and Dubai events.

The Tunisian said she missed being on the court during her time away from the tour. “I’m an athlete and it’s tough to stay out of competition for a long time. I was missing to be on the court. … I was like, ‘OK, I’m going to go and get prepared, even here and Miami, and see what’s gonna happen.”

Jabeur will play former Roland-Garros finalist Marketa Vondrousova next. She holds a 3-2 lead over the Czech left-hander in their head-to-head.

Frech, ranked No 106 in the world, beat Belgian Maryna Zanevska (4-6, 6-4, 6-2) in the previous round of the Indian Wells tournament.
