Indian Wells: Rybakina defeats former champ Badosa to make last 16

Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina, the No 10 seed, advanced to the last 16 of Indian Wells by defeating former world No 2 and her doubles partner this week, Paula Badosa, from Spain, 6-3, 7-5 on Monday.

Rybakina, ranked No 10, will play the winner of the match between qualifier Varvara Gracheva and No 8 seed Daria Kasatkina next.

In the previous round of the Indian Wells tournament, the Kazakh had won against American wildcard Sofia Kenin (7-6 (6), 7-6 (5)).

Badosa, ranked No 22 in the world currently and seeded 21st this week, beat Nuria Parrizas Diaz (6-2, 7-5) earlier in the week.
