Spaniard Paula Badosa defeated Czech Karolina Muchova 6-4, 6-7 (4), 6-2 to advance to the last eight of the Italian Open at the Foro Italico in Rome on Tuesday.

Badosa, ranked No 35, will play Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, the No 20 seed, next.

The Spaniard won against German qualifier Anna-Lena Friedsam (4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (2)), Tunisian Ons Jabeur, the No 4 seed (6-1, 6-4) and Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk, the No 32 seed (6-4, 6-2) ahead of her victory.

Earlier in the tournament, Muchova, ranked No 52, beat Russian lucky loser Kamilla Rakhimova (6-4, 7-5), Italian Martina Trevisan, the No 18 seed (3-6, 6-3, 7-5) and Italian Camila Giorgi (7-6 (4), 6-2).
