Italian Open: More woes for Swiatek, beaten by Collins
Danielle Collins won against Iga Swiatek 6-1, 7-5 on Saturday. She’ll play the winner of the match between Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, the No 16 seed, and American qualifier Hailey Baptiste in the next round

Iga Swiatek’s clay-court woes continued in Rome as she was beaten by American Danielle Collins, the No 29 seed, 6-1, 7-5 at the Foro Italico on Saturday.
Swiatek has won Rome three times previously but so far this year she has not picked up a title on her favourite surface – less than ideal preparation for Roland-Garros.
This time last year, in contrast, she won both Madrid and Rome and reached the semi-final in Stuttgart ahead of winning in Paris.
In the mixed zone afterwards, she had little to say, but did admit: “The focus is on the wrong things from my side and I’ll try to change that.”
Collins : “You obviously learn from those experiences”
Collins had won against Swiatek only once before, and said afterwards: “After losing to Iga so many times, you obviously learn from those experiences, matchups.
“In my mind I was kind of like, well, even though the last couple times we’ve played she’s beaten me, I’ve played some of my best tennis in those matches. So that gave me confidence.
“Then just learning from those situations, executing my game style and being a little bit more accurate than the times before.”
Collins, ranked No 35, will play the winner of the match between Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, the No 16 seed, and American qualifier Hailey Baptiste next.
In the previous round of the Rome tournament, the American won against Romanian qualifier Elena-Gabriela Ruse (6-3, 6-3).
Swiatek, ranked No 2, won against Italian wildcard Elisabetta Cocciaretto (6-1, 6-0) during the second round of the Rome tournament.
