Monastir Open: Parry through to quarter-finals

Diane Parry benefited from the abandonment of Lucrezia Stefanini (6-3, 1-0) on Wednesday afternoon. She’ll play the winner of the match between Pole Magdalena Frech and Russian Veronika Kudermetova, the second seed, in the next round

Frenchwoman Diane Parry advanced to the quarter-finals of the Monastir Open when Italian qualifier Lucrezia Stefanini retired on Wednesday at the Monastir Tennis Club.

Parry, ranked No 65, led 6-3, 1-0 when Stefanini, ranked No 152, pulled out on Wednesday afternoon at the Monastir Tennis Club.

The 20-year-old Frenchman will face the winner of the match between Pole Magdalena Frech and Russian Veronika Kudermetova, the second seed, next.

In the previous round, Parry won against lucky loser Harmony Tan (6-4, 2-6, 6-1), while Italian Stafanini edged out Pole Magda Linette, the No 8 seed (2-6, 6-4, 6-4).
