yMonterrey Open: Top seed Garcia sets up Sherif clash in quarters
The world No 5 beats Nuria Parrizas Diaz 6-3, 6-2 on Thursday
Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the top seed, advanced to the quarter-finals of the Monterrey Open by beating Spaniard Nuria Parrizas Diaz 6-3, 6-2 at the Estadio GNP Seguros on Thursday.
Garcia, ranked No 5 in the world, will face Egyptian Mayar Sherif, the No 7 seed, next.
In the previous round of the Monterrey tournament, the Frenchwoman, who won the season-ending WTA Finals in November, won against Slovenian Kaja Juvan (6-3, 6-4).
Parrizas Diaz, ranked No 78, edged out Chinese Xiyu Wang (7-6 (5), 2-6, 6-4) during the first round of the Monterrey tournament.
