Croat Donna Vekic, the No 3 seed, moved into the final of the Monterrey Open by beating Chinese Lin Zhu, the No 5 seed, 7-5, 6-2 at the Estadio GNP Seguros on Saturday.

Vekic, ranked No 31, will next face Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the top seed, who defeated Belgian Elise Mertens, the No 4 seed, in the second semi-final.

Earlier in the tournament, the Croat won against Ukrainian qualifier Lesia Tsurenko (2-6, 5-0 ret.), American wildcard Emma Navarro (6-3, 6-2) and Belgian Ysaline Bonaventure (6-2, 5-7, 7-6 (5)).

Zhu, ranked No 41, won against Hungarian Anna Bondar (6-4, 7-6 (4)), Canadian Rebecca Marino (7-6 (4), 2-6, 6-3) and American qualifier Caroline Dolehide (6-3, 6-2) in the previous rounds of the Monterrey tournament.
