Montenegrin Danka Kovinic, the second seed, edged out Ukrainian Kateryna Baindl 6-4, 6-7 (3), 7-6 (6) to move into the last 16 of the Open delle Puglie on Tuesday.
Kovinic, ranked No 80, will play Dutch qualifier Eva Vedder next.
