Czech Barbora Krejcikova won the Ostrava Open title by defeating Pole Iga Swiatek, the top seed, 5-7, 7-6 (4), 6-3 at the Ostravar Aréna on Sunday.

Krejcikova took her sixth championship point with an ace to become the first woman to defeat Swiatek in a final since Polona Hercog did it at Lugano in 2019.

It is also her second singles title in as many weeks, after winning the trophy in Tallinn last Sunday against Anett Kontaveit.

Krejcikova, ranked No 23, beat American Shelby Rogers (6-2, 6-2), Swiss Belinda Bencic, the No 6 seed (W/O), American qualifier Alycia Parks (7-6 (7), 6-3) and Kazakh Elena Rybakina (3-6, 7-6 (4), 6-4) ahead of her victory.

She’ll be back at the 14th rank on Monday.

Earlier in the tournament, Swiatek, ranked No 1, defeated Australian qualifier Ajla Tomljanovic (7-5, 2-2 ret.), American qualifier Catherine McNally (6-4, 6-4) and Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova (7-6 (5), 2-6, 6-4).
