Second seed Maya Joint, of Australia, won against qualifier Priscilla Hon 6-4, 6-1 to advance to the quarter-finals of the Puerto Vallarta Open on Thursday.
Joint, ranked No 80, will face wildcard Linda Fruhvirtova next.
The Australian edged out Canadian Carol Zhao (6-3, 3-6, 6-4) ahead of her win today.
In the previous round, Hon, ranked No 142, defeated Thai Mananchaya Sawangkaew (6-3, 5-7, 6-3).
