Canadian Marina Stakusic moved into the last eight of the Puerto Vallarta Open after Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto, the No 3 seed, withdrew before the match on Thursday.
Stakusic, ranked No 126, will play Great Britain’s Heather Watson next.
Earlier in the week, the 20-year-old Canadian beat Croat wildcard Ana Konjuh (6-3, 7-5).
Cocciaretto, ranked No 82, won against American qualifier Christina McHale (6-3, 6-3) in the previous round.
