Former US Open champion Emma Raducanu has been awarded a wild card entry into next month’s BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, tournament organizers confirmed on Thursday.

The 20-year-old Brit is currently ranked No 80 in the world and was third on the alternate list. She now won’t have to depend on any withdrawals to play the tournament known as the “fifth Slam of the tennis calendar”.

Raducanu has a 2-2 record in 2022, reaching the second round in both Auckland and the Australian Open.

The Brit suffered an ankle injury during her second round match in Auckland which forced her to retire from that match in tears. She returned in Melbourne and lost in the second round to American teen Coco Gauff in a high-quality straight sets battle.

Raducanu joins an all-star cast in Indian Wells which includes world No 1 Iga Swiatek, newly crowned Australian Open champion Aryna Sabalenka and the entire top 10.
