American Robin Montgomery beat Brazilian Laura Pigossi 6-0, 6-7 (3), 6-0 to move into the quarter-finals of the Veneto Open at the Tennis Club Gaiba on Thursday afternoon.
Montgomery, ranked No 162, will play Belgian Ysaline Bonaventure, the No 3 seed, next.
Ahead of her victory, the 18-year-old American edged out No 5 seed Taylor Townsend (4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (4)).
Pigossi, ranked No 133, won against Slovak Jana Cepelova (3-6, 6-3, 6-1) in the previous round of the Gaiba tournament.
