Poland’s Iga Swiatek held on to the top spot on the WTA rankings released on Monday July 17th with points from the Wimbledon Championships being added to the players tally. The Pole reached the quarter-finals at the All England Club, her best performance at the grass court Major.

That was enough to fend off the challenge from second-ranked Aryna Sabalenka, who lost in the semi-finals. But the Pole has a lead of only 470 points over the Belarusian, who is the only woman to reach the semi-finals of all the three Grand Slams in 2023 so far.

Following Swiatek and Sabalenka, there is little change in the upper section of the top 10. Elena Rybakina, who lost in the quarters, stays put at no 3, followed by American Jessica Pegula at No 4, Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia at No 5, Wimbledon runner-up Ons Jabeur at No 6 and American Coco Gauff at No 7.

Former two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova rises one spot to No 8 after reaching the last 16 in London, swapping places with Greece’s Maria Sakkari, who drops a notch to No 9.

Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova is the big mover of the week as she climbs 32 spots to break into the top 10 for the first time in her career at No 10. The Czech’s previous career best ranking was No 14 in mid-2019.

Outside the top 10, American Madison Keys, a quarter-finalist at Wimbledon for the first time, moves up two spots to No 16 and former world No 1 Victoria Azarenka is up one position to No 19.

Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina also makes a big splash in the rankings – climbing 49 spots to No 27 after reaching the Wimbledon semi-finals. The 28-year-old only returned to the tour in March after being off the game for a year during which she gave birth to her first child. Svitolina’s compatriot, Lesia Tsurenko, who reached the last 16 at SW19, moves up 14 spots to No 46.

Mirra Andreeva, the 16-year-old who Russian who came through the qualifying draw and captivated the tournament with her run to the fourth round at a Grand Slam for the first time, shoots 36 spots to No 66 – making her the youngest player in the world’s top 100.

There’s also a return to the top 100 for former world No 11 Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, who climbs 23 spots to No 96 after reaching the final of the WTA $125K event in Contrexeville. The player who beat her in the final there, Arantxa Rus, jumped 24 spots to No 62. The 32-year-old Dutchwoman is now just one spot below her peak ranking of No 61 which she achieved in August 2012.
