American Pegula cruises through to third round at US Open

American Jessica Pegula, the No 8 seed, beat Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich 6-4, 6-4 to move into the third round of the US Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City on Thursday.

Pegula, ranked No 8, will play Chinese qualifier Yue Yuan next.

The American is cruising during this US Open, after two rounds. She won against Swiss qualifier Viktorija Golubic (6-2, 6-2) in the previous round of the Flushing Meadows.

Sasnovich, ranked No 32, won against Italian qualifier Elisabetta Cocciaretto (6-2, 6-4).

The US Open women’s draw has already lost several major names during the first two rounds. Anett Kontaveit (2), Maria Sakkari (3), Paula Badosa (4), Simona Halep (7), Daria Kasatkina (10), 2021 winner Emma Raducanu (11), 2021 runner-up Leylah Fernandez (14), Jelena Ostapenko (16) and two-time winner Naomi Osaka.
