WTA Adelaide: Ostapenko sees off Kostyuk to make semi-finals
Jelena Ostapenko won against Marta Kostyuk 7-5, 6-3 on Thursday night and will play the winner of the match between Kazakh Elena Rybakina, the top seed, and Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova in the next round
Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, the No 6 seed, reached the last four of the Adelaide Open by winning against Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk 7-5, 6-3 at the Memorial Drive Tennis Park on Thursday night.
Ostapenko, ranked No 12, will play the winner of the match between Kazakh Elena Rybakina, the top seed, and Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova next.
The Latvian edged out Romanian Sorana Cirstea (2-6, 6-2, 6-4) and Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia (6-4, 5-7, 6-4) in the previous rounds of the Adelaide tournament.
Earlier in the tournament, Kostyuk, ranked No 41, defeated Anhelina Kalinina (7-6 (3), 6-1) and edged out American lucky loser Taylor Townsend (6-3, 2-6, 6-4).
