ATP Auckland: Fils into semi-finals after Altmaier retires
Arthur Fils benefited from the retirement of Daniel Altmaier (7-6 (2), 1-0) on Thursday night. He’ll face Chilean qualifier Alejandro Tabilo in the next round

Frenchman Arthur Fils, the No 6 seed, moved into the semi-finals of the Auckland Open when German Daniel Altmaier retired at the ASB Tennis Arena on Thursday night.
Fils, ranked No 35, led 7-6 (2), 1-0 when Altmaier, ranked No 57, pulled out at the ASB Tennis Arena on Thursday night.
The 19-year-old Frenchman will play Chilean qualifier Alejandro Tabilo next.
Arthur Fils defeated wildcard Richard Gasquet (6-3, 6-4) and Portuguese Nuno Borges (6-2, 6-0) in the previous rounds of the Auckland tournament.
Earlier in the tournament, the German won against American Marcos Giron (7-6 (5), 6-2) and Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, the No 4 seed (7-6 (9), 7-5).
