Conchita Martinez’s statement is sure to reignite rumors of a romance between Carlos Alcaraz and Emma Raducanu. The Spaniard and the Brit will play mixed doubles together at the US Open in a few months and seem to get along very well off the court.

Speaking to BoyleSports, the Spanish tennis legend said: “It’s certainly a very exciting couple. They admire each other a lot. They’re going to be fun to watch and to see the great energy that Carlos has to bring to the table. They get along great and they’re going to be very exciting for sure.”

Based on the current public information, Alcaraz and Raducanu are nothing more than a doubles team, which makes Conchita Martinez’s words (“couple”) particularly bold.

They get along great and they’re going to be very exciting for sure

Asked about his partnership with Emma Raducanu for the US Open mixed doubles during his pre-tournament press conference at Queen’s, Carlos Alcaraz expressed great enthusiasm at the idea of sharing the court with the British player, who won the US Open in 2021.

“She’s going to be the boss (smiling). Yes, the US Open approached us and gave us the opportunity to play mixed doubles. I’m very excited. I think it’s going to be great. It was a brilliant idea for the tournament. Yes, I’ve known Emma for a long time, so we know each other well. I have a very good relationship with her. So it’s going to be interesting. You know, obviously we’re both going to have fun, for sure. I’ll try to use my doubles skills. We’re going to try to win. But clearly, it’s going to be a lot of fun.”

I’m just glad she came to support me

Eliminated in the quarter-finals of the women’s tournament at Queen’s two weeks ago, Emma Raducanu stayed in London and was spotted in the stands watching the men’s semi-final between Carlos Alcaraz and Roberto Bautista Agut.

Asked about the Brit’s presence at his match, the Spaniard was pleased to have received Emma Raducanu’s support and said he’d be happy to attend one of her Wimbledon matches in the coming days if his schedule allows.

“I saw on social media that she came to watch my match. I’m happy. I mean, I was focused on the match. I didn’t see her (smiling). I’m just glad she came to support me and watch my match. Yeah, I think it was great to have her in the stands.”

Asked if he would watch her play also, he replied: “Well, it depends on the schedule, obviously. I’ve got training. I’ve got matches. Yeah, I’d like to, yeah, if I have time, if, you know, if everything — if I’m at the club or I don’t have anything else going on, yeah, I’d love to go watch her. I watch her matches on TV whenever I can. So seeing her live could be nice.”
