Australia’s Alex de Minaur is a top 10 player for the first time after the ATP rankings were officially updated on Monday.

The 24-year-old became the first Australian man to be ranked inside the top 10 since his mentor, Lleyton Hewitt, in 2006, having secured his spot thanks to his victory over Alexander Zverev in the semi-finals of the United Cup.

De Minaur has long maintained that Ken Rosewall Arena is his favourite court in the world. The court’s namesake, International Tennis Hall of Famer Ken Rosewall, is proud of his countryman’s accomplishments.

Djokovic still well clear at top, MANNARINO INTO TOP 20

Zverev moved up one place to No 6 after helping Germany to victory in the United Cup on Sunday, swapping places with Stefanos Tsitsipas. The rest of the top 10 stayed the same, though Carlos Alcaraz is a little closer to No 1 Novak Djokovic, the Serb dropping 190 points on the week.

Djokovic still has a commanding lead at the top, though, sitting pretty on 11,055 points to the 8,855 of Alcaraz, ahead of his defence of the Australian Open title.

And Adrian Mannarino reached a career-high ranking at the grand old age of 35, breaking into the world’s top 20 (at No 20) for the first time.

Nadal up to No 451

Rafael Nadal will not play at next week’s Australian Open after suffering a minor tear to the muscle by his left hip.

But the Spaniard’s two wins in Brisbane propelled him up 221 places in the rankings to No 451.

ATP Top 10 (as of Jan 8, 2024):

Novak Djokovic, 11,055 points
Carlos Alcaraz, 10,855
Daniil Medvedev, 7,555
Jannik Sinner, 6,490
Andrey Rublev, 5,010
Alexander Zverev, 4,275
Stefanos Tsitsipas, 4,025
Holger Rune, 3,815
Hubert Hurkacz, 3,320
