Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime, the No 2 seed, came from a set down to beat Great Britain’s Dan Evans, the No 5 seed, in three sets and advance to the semi-finals of the European Open in Antwerp on Friday.

Auger-Aliassime needed two hours and 41 minutes to put away Evans 4-6, 7-6 (4), 6-2 and win his sixth match in a row.

The Canadian, currently seventh in the Race to Turin (for the season-ending ATP Finals), had won the ATP Florence Open title last week.

“I’m really happy I made the effort to dig deep and push hard until the end” – Auger-Aliassime

Ager-Aliassime, who is now coached by Toni Nadal, said he was happy to dig deep and come out with the win.

“It was a really high-quality match from both of us and I couldn’t regret too much, or anything really, in the first set. He just played a bit too good,” the Canadian said post-match. “Then I started serving better, I was able to hold my serve a little bit easier, so that of course helped. From the tie-break and the third set, it was a great finish from me. I’m really happy I made the effort to dig deep and push hard until the end.”

The Canadian will take on French veteran Richard Gasquet for a place in the final while former US Open champion Dominic Thiem will meet Sebastian Korda in the other semi-final.

Antwerp ATP 250, other quarter-finals results (Lotto Arena, EUR 648.130, most recent results first):

  • Dominic Thiem beat Hubert Hurkacz (1): 3-6, 7-6 (9), 7-6 (4)
