Los Cabos Open: Tsitsipas eases past Coric, faces De Minaur in final

The Greek player has a perfect 9-0 record against De Minaur on the ATP Tour

Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas, the top seed, advanced to the final of the Los Cabos Open by winning against Croat Borna Coric, the No 4 seed, 6-3, 6-2 in one hour and 12 minutes at the Cabo del Mar Sports Center on Saturday.

Tsitsipas, ranked No 5, will face Alex De Minaur, the No 5 seed, for the title on Sunday. The Greek player has a 9-0 lifetime record against the Australian, who is also known as ‘Demon’, with six of his last seven wins coming in straight sets.

“It’s a brand new match for me,” Tsitsipas said about Sunday’s final as quoted by the ATP Tour website. “He’s someone that has played a lot of matches this week, so he’s on a good run. So am I. I’m going to try and put up a fight out there and give it my best shot. Tomorrow is a big fight for me.”

Tsitsipas will be aiming for his first title of 2023 as he plays the 27th final of his career. The Greek player has a 9-17 record in finals thus far.

Ahead of his win over Coric, the Greek beat American John Isner (6-2, 6-4) and Chilean Nicolas Jarry, the No 6 seed (6-7 (6), 7-6 (4), 6-2).

Coric, ranked No 16 in the world, won against lucky loser Jason Jung (6-1, 6-2) and Belarusian Ilya Ivashka, the No 8 seed (6-3, 6-4) in the previous rounds of the Los Cabos tournament.
