Australian Alex De Minaur, the No 6 seed, advanced to the third round of the Madrid Masters by winning against Italian Lorenzo Sonego 6-2, 6-3 at the Caja Mágica on Saturday.
De Minaur, ranked No 7, will face Canadian Denis Shapovalov, the No 29 seed, next.
Sonego, ranked No 43, defeated Serb Miomir Kecmanovic (6-4, 7-6 (5)) in the previous round of the tournament.
