ATP Montreal Masters: Hurkacz last qualified of the day and first player in the third round

Hubert Hurkacz defeated Emil Ruusuvuori 6-3, 6-7 (4), 6-2 on Wednesday night. He’ll face the winner of the match between Argentinian Diego Schwartzman, the No 12 seed, and Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas in the next round

Pole Hubert Hurkacz, the No 8 seed, moved into the last 16 of the Montreal Masters by defeating Finn Emil Ruusuvuori 6-3, 6-7 (4), 6-2 at Stade IGA on Wednesday night.

Hurkacz, ranked No 10, will face the winner of the match between Argentinian Diego Schwartzman, the No 12 seed, and Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas next.

Ruusuvuori, ranked No 44, won against Swiss Stan Wawrinka (6-3, 3-6, 6-3) in the previous round of the Rogers Cup.

Hurkacz is the first player qualified for the third round, in a draw where every seed won their first round except Matteo Berettini, defeated by Pablo Carreño Busta.
