Weeks after the Kosmos and International Tennis Federation (ITF) deal over the Davis Cup fell apart, Kosmos has also lost one of its star athletes, Dominic Thiem.

The 29-year-old Austrian, a former world No 3 and the 2020 US Open champion, had been managed by Kosmos since June 2021, just prior to the wrist injury that kept Thiem out of the game for nine months.

According to the Thiem camp, the two parties parted ways amicably and the Austrian star will now be managed by his 23-year-old brother Moritz.

“What comes from outside is not at the moment important. It’s important for me that I fully light the fire” – Thiem

The Austrian said he needs to ignite the fire within to reclaim his place among the game’s elite and that his management is not responsible for making him a better player.

“My management will not make me a better player, nor will it kindle the fire in me,” Thiem said as quoted by Der Standard in German. “It doesn’t matter who manages me. I signed and tore my wrist five days later. That didn’t go well, neither for me nor for them. What comes from outside is not at the moment important. It’s important for me that I fully light the fire.”

After his unsuccessful Davis Cup outing for Austria this past weekend (Austria lost to Croatia 3-1 in the Davis Cup Qualifiers), Thiem will resume his season in Buenos Aires, followed by tournaments in Rio de Janeiro and Santiago before heading to the United States for the Indian Wells and Miami Masters Series events.
