US Open: Sinner negates Hanfmann threat, advances to second round

Jannik Sinner, the No 6 seed, defeated German Yannick Hanfmann 6-3, 6-1, 6-1 to advance to the second round of the US Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York on Tuesday night.

It was a match that could have tripped up the Italian, with Hanfmann having defeated the likes of Stefanos Tsitsipas, Francisco Cerundolo, Andrey Rublev, Tommy Paul, Lorenzo Musetti and Taylor Fritz already this year.

However, Sinner negated the threat beautifully, dominating behind his serve to win 78 percent and 61 percent of his first and second serve points. Combined with some strong net play, the No 6 seed dispatched Hanfmann in two hours, 18 minutes to book a date with compatriot Lorenzo Sonego next.
