Venus Williams, 45, awarded wild card for her 25th US Open

The story goes on. At 45 years old, Venus Williams is set to make yet another appearance at Flushing Meadows, having been awarded a wild card by the United States Tennis Association (USTA) for the upcoming US Open. The American legend, a two-time champion in New York (2000, 2001) and former World No. 1, will be playing in her 25th edition of the tournament.

The decision comes as little surprise. Williams made a notable return to the WTA Tour this summer after more than a year away, capturing a win in her opening match in Washington that reminded fans she still has plenty to offer. She then continued her comeback in Cincinnati, using those matches as preparation for her home Grand Slam.

Williams’ last major appearance was at the 2023 US Open, where she fell in the opening round. This time, she returns with the unparalleled experience of 91 Grand Slam main-draw appearances and the desire to shine again on one of tennis’ grandest stages.

Alongside Williams, the USTA has handed main-draw wild cards to fellow Americans Clervie Ngounoue, Julieta Pareja, Caty McNally, Valerie Glozman, and Alyssa Ahn. Caroline Garcia (France) and Talia Gibson (Australia) received their invitations through reciprocal agreements with their respective federations.

Twenty-five US Opens, two titles, four runner-up finishes, and a career that spans nearly three decades — Venus Williams is set to write yet another chapter in her remarkable tennis journey.
