Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the second seed, advanced to the third round of Wimbledon by beating qualifier Oliver Tarvet 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London on Wednesday.

He extends his current winning streak to 20 matches, the youngest man to do so since a 19-year-old Juan Martin del Potro in 2008.

He is also the youngest man in the Open Era to claim 30 consecutive singles match wins at Roland-Garros and Wimbledon, surpassing Bjorn Borg, who achieved it at the age of 22 years and 356 days.

Alcaraz, ranked No 2, will face the winner of the match between Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, the No 25 seed, and German Jan-Lennard Struff next.

In the previous round of The Championships, the 22-year-old Spaniard won against Italian Fabio Fognini (7-5, 6-7 (5), 7-5, 2-6, 6-1).

The most special day of Tarvet’s life

Tarvet defeated Swiss qualifier Leandro Riedi (6-4, 6-4, 6-4) during the first round of The Championships.

He now returns to college tennis at the University of San Diego following what he described as “the most special day” of his life.

“I’ve played against some really good players before, but not quite the level of Alcaraz,” he reflected in his post-match press conference. “I feel like as soon as I had 95% focus, I lost a game.”
