Abierto Tampico: Linette overcomes Marino to set up final against Cocciaretto

Poland’s Magda Linette, the No 5 seed, advanced to the final of the Abierto Tampico by defeating Canadian Rebecca Marino, the No 8 seed, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 at Centro Libanes Mexicano de Tampico on Friday.

Linette, ranked No 55, will face Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto in the final. Cocciaretto scored a 6-4, 7-6 win over Lin Zhu in the first semi-final of the day.

The Pole had scored wins over Canadian qualifier Bianca Jolie Fernandez (6-3, 6-0), Mexican Renata Zarazua (6-3, 7-5) and Belgian Elise Mertens, the top seed (7-5, 6-2) earlier in the week.

In the previous rounds, Marino, ranked No 72, had defeated Russian Varvara Flink (6-3, 7-5), Japanese Moyuka Uchijima (7-6 (4), 6-7 (8), 6-3) and No 3 seed Leylah Fernandez (6-3, 6-3).
