Maiden title for teenager Fruhvirtova, upsets Linette to win in Chennai

Czech Linda Fruhvirtova edged out Pole Magda Linette, the No 3 seed, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 to win the Chennai Open on Sunday – her maiden title on the tour.
Tearful with the emotion of the occasion, she said afterwards: “I left my heart out here during these matches. This is something I’ll remember forever.”
In the previous rounds, Fruhvirtova, ranked No 130, defeated qualifier En-Shuo Liang (4-6, 6-1, 6-3), Swede Rebecca Peterson, the No 5 seed (6-4, 6-2), Russian Varvara Gracheva, the second seed (6-4, 6-3) and Argentinian Nadia Podoroska (5-7, 6-2, 6-4).
The 17-year-old now looks set to move into a new career-high ranking of world No 74.
Linette, ranked No 67, beat Japanese Moyuka Uchijima (6-4, 6-0), Russian Oksana Selekhmeteva (6-2, 6-0), Canadian Rebecca Marino, the No 7 seed (7-6 (10), 6-3) and Katie Swan (3-0 ret.) earlier in the tournament.
