Danielle Collins reached the last 16 of the Cymbiotika San Diego Open by defeating qualifier Louisa Chirico 7-5, 6-0 on Tuesday.
Collins, ranked No 43 and a former Australian Open runner-up, will play Jelena Ostapenko next. The Latvian knocked out eighth seed Ekaterina Alexandrova in another first round match on Tuesday.
