Monterrey Open: Garcia easy against Sherif

Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the top seed, won against Egyptian Mayar Sherif, the No 7 seed, 6-0, 6-4 to move into the semi-finals of the Monterrey Open at the Estadio GNP Seguros on Friday night.

Garcia, ranked No 5, will face the winner of the match between Belgian Elise Mertens, the No 4 seed, and Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto, the No 8 seed, next.

The Frenchwoman beat Slovenian Kaja Juvan (6-3, 6-4) and Spaniard Nuria Parrizas Diaz (6-3, 6-2) earlier in the tournament.

Sherif, ranked No 53, benefited from the abandonment of Colombian Camila Osorio (7-6 (5), 4-2) and edged out Chinese Xinyu Wang (3-6, 7-6 (6), 6-4).
