American lucky loser Peyton Stearns defeated Pole qualifier Magdalena Frech 6-1, 6-4 to reach the last 16 of the Mubadala Citi DC Open on Tuesday evening.

Stearns, ranked No 59, will play top seed Jessica Pegula next.
