The hopes of tennis fans to see Serena Williams lift another tennis title will have to wait after partner Ons Jabeur was forced to pull out of the WTA Eastbourne International women’s doubles semi-final due to a knee injury.

WIlliams and Jabeur, nicknamed OnSerena by the American legend herself, won two matches this week to reach the semi-finals in Eastbourne. They were scheduled to play Aleksandra Krunic and Magda Linette on Friday for a place in the final.

However, the Tunisian was forced to pull out with a knee injury, sending Krunic and Linette into the final.

Jabeur to climb to new career-high of No 2 in the world next week

Jabeur is also projected to climb to a new career-high singles ranking of No 2 in the world on Monday. Although the Tunisian did not play singles this week, current world No 2 Anett Kontaveit will drop the points she earned for reaching the finals at Eastbourne last year, when she lost to Jelena Ostapenko in the championship match.

Jabeur, who was already the first Tunisian woman to break into the top 10 in the world rankings, then the top 5 and then the top 3, will break another barrier next week with the rise.
