American Peyton Stearns defeated Italian wildcard Jennifer Ruggeri 6-2, 6-1 to move into the last 16 of the Parma Ladies Open presented by Iren on Monday evening.
Stearns, ranked No 82, will face the winner of the match between Croat Petra Martic, the No 9 seed, and American Varvara Lepchenko next.
