American qualifier Robin Montgomery advanced to the quarter-finals of the Puerto Vallarta Open by defeating Mexican Renata Zarazua, the No 4 seed, 6-1, 6-4 on Wednesday.
Montgomery, ranked No 207, will play fellow American Hailey Baptiste, the No 7 seed, who beat Belarusian qualifier Iryna Shymanovich.
The 19-year-old American won against Argentinian Solana Sierra (6-1, 7-5) in the previous round.
During the 32, Zarazua, ranked No 102, beat wildcard Fernanda Contreras Gomez (6-3, 6-4).
