Emma Raducanu‘s stop-start to 2023 has taken another twist with the news that the former US Open champion will miss this week’s WTA event in Austin, Texas, because she is suffering with tonsillitis.

The 20-year-old had travelled to Texas early to get ready for her first event since the Australian Open, only to be struck down by the illness.

The Briton is expected to return now for the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, which begins on March 6.

Raducanu has played just two events so far this year. She pulled out before her second-round match in Auckland after injuring her ankle. She recovered in time to play the Australian Open but lost in the second round to Coco Gauff.
