Rome Masters: Hurkacz survives second-set scare against Giron to reach last 16

Pole Hubert Hurkacz, the No 30 seed, won against American Marcos Giron 6-3, 1-6, 6-1 to reach the last 16 of the Rome Masters at the Foro Italico in Roma on Monday.

Hurkacz, ranked No 31, will play No 20 seed Jakub Mensik next.

The Pole defeated Spaniard Pedro Martinez Portero (6-1, 7-5) in the previous round of the Italian Open.

Earlier in the tournament, Giron, ranked No 45, edged out Canadian Gabriel Diallo (3-6, 6-3, 6-4) and beat No 4 seed Taylor Fritz (7-6 (4), 7-6 (3)).
