Russia’s Daniil Medvedev began his 12th week as world No 1 in the latest ATP rankings released on Monday. The 26-year-old won his first title of the season in Los Cabos on Sunday, beating Cameron Norrie in straight sets in the final.

However, with 3,360 points to defend in the next five weeks through the US Open, Medvedev will find his top ranking under threat from Spaniards Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz.

For this week, Alexander Zverev is at No 2 followed by Nadal – both players have pulled out of Montreal this week but remain on the entry list for next week’s Cincinnati Masters.

Alcaraz, who could break into the top 3 for the first time next week if he reaches the Montreal final, is at No 4, followed by Stefanos Tsitsipas (No 5), Novak Djokovic (No 6), Casper Ruud (No 7), Andrey Rublev (No 8), Felix Auger-Aliassime (No 9) and Hubert Hurkacz (+1 to No 10).

Britain’s Cameron Norrie, who lost to Medvedev in the Los Cabos final, moves up one spot to No 11 as Jannik Sinner drops two positions to No 12.

Kyrgios returns to the top 40 in ATP rankings for first time in over two years

Meanwhile, Nick Kyrgios, who the Citi Open title on Sunday, jumped 26 spots to return to the world’s top 40 at No 37. This is the Australian’s highest ranking since February 2020 and he would be ranked in the top 20 if points from Wimbledon, where he reached his first Major singles final, were being allotted this year.

Kyrgios and Medvedev are slated to meet in the second round of the Canadian Masters this week. Medvedev has a bye in the opening round while Kyrgios opens up against Argentina’s Sebastian Baez in Montreal.

The player that Kyrgios beat in the Washington final – 26-year-old Yoshihito Nishioka – climbs 42 spots to No 54 – just six spots below his peak of No 48 in February 2020.

Sweden’s Mikael Ymer, who reached the semi-finals in Washington before losing to Kyrgios, is another big mover – climbing 38 spots to No 77 and American J.J. Wolf climbs 15 spots to No 84 – a new career-high for him – after reaching the quarter-finals of the Citi Open.
