Why Tsitsipas follows this piece of advice from Roger Federer

Tsitsipas has remembered this bit of advice from one of the all-time greats

Stefanos Tsitsipas says he’s learnt one really important thing from Roger Federer – the need to mix things up a little.

“Roger’s best years, he was unstoppable,” the Greek said in a social media video for the forthcoming Diriyah Tennis Cup exhibition event. “He said many years ago if you don’t change something in a positive way, your opponents are going to find out what you’re doing, and [then] what you’ve been doing isn’t as efficient as it was before.

“You’ve always got to think forward, be progressive in your mindset. That’s what he has been doing so well for so many years.”

The 24-year-old still hasn’t claimed that Grand Slam title – despite making yet another semi-final this year, at the Australian Open – but he’s pleased with his progress in 2022.

“I had some good results, I’ve been playing consistently, I had a few titles this year. Feeling good with my body was the main thing I was looking for this year, and I was able to combine it with some good performances.

“I do think there is always room for improvement. I’m a person who works hard, I’m a person who goes into much detail of what I need to go after and improve in my personal game.”

This year, Tsitsipas won titles in Mallorca and Monte Carlo, where he defended his crown. He is currently ranked world No 4, a spot lower than the career high he reached last summer.
