Serena Williams reached the semifinals of the 2020 US Open but failed in her quest to win a 24th major title for the ninth straight Grand Slam. Williams was defeated by Victoria Azarenka 1-6 6-3 6-3, which marked the first time she had lost to the Belarusian in a major in 11 meetings. Though she did not win the title, the American did break the record for all-time wins at the US Open, passing Chris Evert and finishing the tournament with 106 wins at the US Open.
