Patrick Mouratoglou (co-founder of Tennis Majors) has confirmed that he is working with Coco Gauff only till the end of Roland-Garros and clarified that he is not the official coach of the American teen.

Gauff went down to world No 1 Iga Swiatek in the quarter-finals of Roland-Garros on Wednesday. The American lost 6-4, 6-2 in a repeat of last year’s French Open final.

Gauff split with coach Diego Moyano in early April and has since been seen working with Mouratoglou, whom she has known since she was 10 years old. The American has also trained at Mouratoglou’s academy in the south of France through the years.

In an interview with Canal+, Mouratoglou confirmed that the current arrangement was a stop-gap one until the end of the clay court major. “I’m not the official coach of Coco Gauff. Coco is part of my academy since she was 10. She doesn’t have a coach at the moment. She is going to play Roland-Garros. So I decided, per her request, to spend time with her on the court, to help her at least for Roland-Garros.”

Moutagolou, who was previously working with Simona Halep prior to the Romanian’s suspension from the tour on doping charges which she has strongly and repeatedly denied, remains the coach of Holger Rune for now.

“We started after Madrid, and it was just through the clay season he’s helping me out. I’m going in between coaches, to be honest,” Gauff told the media in Paris prior to the start of Roland-Garros. “I haven’t really found a full-time coach, I guess. Obviously, he’s still with Holger (Rune). But I have a great relationship with Patrick. I have known him since I was 10 years old and obviously been on the court with him before. I thought he would be a perfect person to help me during this time. I’m looking forward to the next two weeks with him.”

With her French Open campaign over, it remains to be seen what Gauff’s coaching set up will be for the grass season.
