Swiss Belinda Bencic, the No 12 seed, defeated Spaniard Garbine Muguruza, the No 8 seed, 6-1, 6-3 to move into the quarter-finals of the National Bank Open at the Aviva Centre in Toronto on Thursday night.
Bencic, ranked No 12, will face Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia next.
In the previous rounds of the Canadian Open, she won against Czech qualifier Tereza Martincova (6-4, 6-2) and American Serena Williams (6-2, 6-4).
Muguruza, ranked No 8, beat Estonian Kaia Kanepi (6-4, 6-4).
