Men’s world No 1 Novak Djokovic and women’s No 2 Iga Swiatek will headline a strong entry list for the 2024 United Cup, which will kick off the new tennis year.

Five of the top 10 women, including Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova, and nine of the top 20 men, including Stefanos Tsitsipas, will play in the 18-team event, which will begin on December 29.

Taylor Fritz and the United States team will defend their title while Poland are the No 1 seeds, led by Swiatek and Hubert Hurkacz, a recent winner of the Masters 1000 event in Shanghai.

Jessica Pegula, Maria Sakkari, Caroline Garcia, Casper Ruud, Alexander Zverev, Alex de Minaur, Felix Auger-Aliasime and Cam Norrie are among others who will play in the mixed team event. Former women’s No 1 Angelique Kerber is also due to return after the birth of her first child.

“We can’t wait to see some exciting match-ups between such a high calibre playing field, and lots of entertaining tennis in what promises to be a blockbuster event,” tournament director Stephen Farrow said.

Up to six players, three men and three women, can be named for each team. The 18 nations will be drawn into six round-robin groups.

The draw for the 2024 event will take place on October 23.
