Argentina’s Nadia Podoroska, who had a surprising run to the Roland-Garros semi-finals in 2020 as a qualifier, has pulled out of next month’s Australian Open in Melbourne.

24-year-old Podoroska, ranked 84th in the world, has not played since the US Open in August, where she was beaten in the first round by Belgium’s Greet Minnen, due to injury.

In her first main draw appearance at Melbourne Park, she had reached the second round in 2021.

Podoroska joins Serena Williams (injury), Karolina Pliskova (injury), Jennifer Brady (injury), Karolina Muchova (reason unclear), Bianca Andreescu (recovering from a difficult year mentally), and Olivia Gadecki (not vaccinated) on the list of withdrawals for the first Grand Slam of the 2022 season.
