Before they met in the semi-finals of the 2022 Australian Open, Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas were no longer a match for each other. From their first meeting on the main tour, in Miami in 2018, they had been calling each other names. After their duel in Melbourne, the Greek, beaten in four sets, added one more to their collection.

“It was funny (smile),” he commented, on the moment the Russian started yelling at the umpire. “I don’t pay too much attention to those things. I know some players like to do stuff like that to destabilise you mentally. Maybe it was a tactic. He’s not the most mature person anyway.”
